What authors do I enjoy reading in my downtime?
Downtime, ha - what's that? No, seriously, I love Stephanie Laurens, Linda Howard, Jane Austen, Raven Hart
What do you enjoy reading?
Historicals, Westerns and Paranormals but for some reason I end up writing Contemporary.
In what order do I write?
From beginning to end, then I go back and ‘fill’ where needed. I have to have the starting line right off the bat or I can’t continue, must be the OCD in me. But sometimes I learn more about my characters in that first chapter than in all the preliminary work I’ve already done.
Are you plotter or a pantster?
A little of both. I usually start a story with a setting and story idea and then I develop my characters . Lately I’ve been allowing myself one index card (front and back) to plot – that’s it. I love following the path my characters take. .
If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be?
Cairo, Egypt – no question
Out of all your books, which one is your favorite and why?
The book of my heart, “Cowboys aren’t for Loving” because I am in love with the hero and I identify with the heroine.
What are your writing goals in the future?
I’d love to write – that is my passion. And if ever I could, I’d quit my day job and write full time.
What organization do you participate in?
Diamond State Romance Authors is my life-support. We have critique loops, goals groups, brainstorming activities, writing weekends, plotting bootcamps – you name it. Not to mention the group of life-long friends I’ve made. I wouldn’t be this far in my writing career without DSRA.
How do you develop characters?
Haven’t figured this one out 100% yet. I think as an author grows, the answer to this question changes. Currently, I come up with a character for the story, figure out what his/her internal pre-set judgments are and then I figure out what conflicts would cause that character to change those internal pre-set judgments.
Do I use real life examples?
Of course! Every one of my characters is based a little bit off of someone I know. This helps me to figure out how a character will react in a time of conflict.
What are some things that readers may not know about you?
I love writing poetry and photography. When I can't write, I revert to bad prose or a camera - there is always inspiration somewhere and sometimes a change of pace is needed to tear down a road block.
